Meet the educators

Dr. Alexis Elias-Spohn, is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Owner of Empower Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy located at Cary Integrative Health in Cary, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology from Kent State, a Masters of Physical Therapy from Youngstown State University, and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Chatham University.Dr. Elias-Spohn started her career in 2007 working in orthopedics in Ohio, with a variety of patient clientele. She relocated to the Triangle in 2018 with her husband and two children.  It was then that she began to focus her career on pelvic floor rehabilitation because she found it fascinating and underutilized.  Struggling with her own postpartum pelvic pain ignited her passion for pelvic floor health. Now, she focuses on listening to women and combating the misinformation given to them surrounding pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and their bladder, bowel, and sexual function.

Dr. Norah Whitten is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Owner of Functional Phyzio and Performance Therapy in Durham, NC. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois, then a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Duke University. Dr. Whitten’s practice is shaped by her history as a competitive gymnast and diver. She loves working with active adults, specifically those who enjoy functional fitness and weightlifting. In addition, Dr. Whitten treats a variety of pelvic floor dysfunctions and especially loves helping moms (during pregnancy and postpartum) overcome these challenges so they can do the activities they love and feel strong.
